Matthew Robert Smith (born 28 October 1982) is an English stage and television actor. He is known for his role as the eleventh incarnation of the Doctor in the British television series Doctor Who, for which he received a BAFTA Award nomination in 2011. He initially aspired to be a professional footballer, but a back injury forced him out of the sport.
